Agra Fatehpur Sikri

Located 39 km from the amazing city of Agra, Fatehpur Sikri is a perfect example of the brilliant Mughal architecture and aura. This red sandstone walled city was initially the capital of the Mughal emperor Akbar, who later shifted to Lahore.

Built during 1571 and 1585, Fatehpur Sikri was the first planned city of the Mughal rule, that was a perfect blend of the Indian, Persian and Islamic architecture. Every year thousands of travelers visit this magnificent ancient city. In fact it was recently declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. Today people consider it a ghost city as not many people live in this magnificent city.

Diwan-khana-i-khas:
This was the place where all the ministers and state dignitaries used to meet to discuss the important state issues. No common man was allowed in this chamber. There is a beautifully carved column in the center of this hall that leads to four narrow causeways.

Panch Mahal:
It is a 5 storied pavillion of winds where each floor is smaller than the other. Every floor of Panch Mahal is supported with elegantly carved pillars. Travelers can enjoy a very majestic view of the entire city from here.

Dargah of Salim Chisti:
Built in the year 1570 Dargah of Salim Chisti is visited by thousands of devotees of different religion coming here from different parts of the world. People believe that Akbar prayed at this holy place and was blessed with three sons. He even named his elder son Salim after his wish came true.

Besides them one can also see Jami Masjid, Jodha Bai's Palace, Buland Darwaza, Sunehra Makan, Birbal's house, Naubat Khana, Ibadat Khana, Diwan-i-am, Hawa Mahal and Nagina Masjid while in Fatehpur Sikri.
